About this specimen
This specimen features an association of sphalerite and bournonite from the Les Malines deposit. The specimen forms a dense and irregular crystallized assemblage, with numerous small reflective faces and pronounced relief across its surface.
The two sides have noticeably different appearances, with some areas more massive and others more extensively covered by fine crystallization. The photos and video allow the overall structure, surface relief and appearance of the specimen to be viewed from several angles.
Bournonite
Bournonite is a lead, copper and antimony sulfosalt with the chemical formula PbCuSbS₃. It generally displays a metallic grey to very dark color and has a hardness of 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale.
Provenance
This specimen comes from the Les Malines deposit near Saint-Laurent-le-Minier, in southern France. This former lead-zinc mining area produced a varied mineralogy including sphalerite, bournonite, barite, dolomite and other associated minerals.
The specimen was collected in 1981 and comes from an old collection.
