Pink manganocalcite for sale

Manganocalcite is a manganese-rich variety of calcite, generally recognizable by its pink colours, ranging from very pale pink to deeper shades. It belongs to the trigonal crystal system and retains the main characteristics of calcite, including a hardness of around 3 on the Mohs scale. The manganese present in its structure is responsible for its characteristic coloration.

Pink manganocalcite: crystallization and characteristics

Manganocalcite may occur as rhombohedral crystals, crystallized groups or more massive formations. Its colour varies according to the manganese content and the conditions in which the deposit formed. Some specimens display a uniform pink colour, while others show variations in tone or lighter areas.

Like calcite, it has distinct cleavage. Crystal appearance, transparency, arrangement and the possible presence of matrix can produce specimens with very different appearances.
