Thomsonite

Thomsonite is a mineral belonging to the zeolite group, a family of hydrated silicates that form mainly in volcanic rocks, more specifically within basalt cavities. It develops when mineral-rich fluids circulate through the rock and gradually crystallize.

The thomsonite specimens presented in this category occur as compact nodules, distinguished by a well-defined orange coloration. This hue, combined with a soft, slightly velvety visual texture, is characteristic of certain thomsonites when observed on the surface or in polished cross-sections.

From a structural point of view, thomsonite may display a radiating internal structure, in which crystals are arranged around a central point. This feature, sometimes visible to the naked eye or enhanced by polishing, represents one of the main mineralogical points of interest of this mineral.
