Minerals from Spain.
Spain has several mineral deposits that are well known among collectors, particularly for fluorite and pyrite. This category brings together a selection of Spanish minerals including fluorite, pyrite, gypsum, barite, calcite, quartz and various mineral associations.
The minerals from Spain currently available are displayed a little further down this page.
The composition of this selection naturally evolves as specimens are sold and new pieces are added, so some mineral species may occasionally be temporarily unavailable or available again.
Minerals from Spain: fluorite, pyrite, gypsum and other species
Fluorite holds an important place in this selection, with several specimens originating from Asturias and Berbes. Spanish fluorites display a variety of colours, from purple to colourless or yellow, and may occur in association with barite, quartz or calcite.
The category also includes several pyrite specimens, including pieces from Navajún, as well as various gypsum specimens. This diversity brings together pieces displaying varied crystallization, colours and mineral associations, suitable for both mineral enthusiasts and collectors.
Berbes, Asturias and Navajún: major mineral localities in Spain
Asturias is one of Spain’s best-known regions for fluorite. Its main fluorite districts include Berbes, La Collada and Villabona. At Berbes, near Ribadesella, the deposits are particularly associated with fluorite, barite and quartz.
Navajún, in the La Rioja region, is another well-known Spanish mineral locality, particularly noted for its pyrite crystals. Specimens from this locality are especially known for their sharply defined cubic crystals, although other crystal morphologies may also occur.
