About this specimen

This beautiful association of fluorite and barite from Berbes features an important group of purple cubic fluorite crystals associated with white barite crystals. The strong contrast between the two minerals gives this large specimen a particularly characteristic appearance.

The fluorite crystals are numerous and extensively developed across the specimen, with well-visible faces and colors ranging from pale violet to deeper purple tones. The barite occurs as elongated white crystals grouped together in several areas, creating a marked contrast with the fluorite.

Berbes, a renowned mineral locality

This specimen comes from the Berbes mining district, near Ribadesella in Asturias, northern Spain. The area is particularly well known among mineral collectors for its fluorite, often occurring as purple cubic crystals, as well as for associations with quartz and barite.

The association of purple fluorite and barite is among the characteristic mineral combinations that have contributed to the reputation of Berbes among collectors.
