Specimen overview

This specimen combines an extensive crystallisation of chalcopyrite with numerous white quartz crystals distributed across the matrix. The chalcopyrite forms a golden-yellow covering, while the elongated and clearly visible quartz crystals create a marked contrast in both colour and texture.

The association is completed by a few lead-grey galena crystals and dark sphalerite. The variety of minerals and their distribution create a richly crystallised specimen whose appearance can be appreciated from different viewing angles.

Provenance

This specimen comes from the 9th of September Mine in Madan, Bulgaria, a locality known for its associations of sulphides and quartz. The piece was collected in 1990.

The specimen measures 80 mm in length and 60 mm in width. It weighs 75 g.
