Chemical formula and composition: Wulfenite's chemical formula is PbMoO4. It is composed mainly of lead molybdate.

Color and possible variations: Wulfenite can be yellow, orange, red or brownish. Yellow to bright orange specimens are prized by collectors.

Wulfenite owes its name to Franz Xavier von Wulfen, an 18th-century Austrian mineralogist and botanist. It was first described in 1845.
