Description

Specimen overview

This wulfenite from Morocco displays abundant crystallisation composed of numerous tabular crystals in yellow-orange to honey-brown tones. Several larger crystals stand out in the central and upper areas of the specimen, with glossy faces and clearly visible outlines.

The crystallisation covers much of the matrix and combines crystals of varying sizes, some of which overlap. This arrangement gives the specimen pronounced relief, visible from its different viewing angles.

Origin

This wulfenite comes from Morocco and originates from an old collection.

About wulfenite

Wulfenite was named in 1845 by Wilhelm Karl von Haidinger in honour of Franz Xaver von Wulfen (1728-1805), an Austrian naturalist and mineralogist.

Care and preservation

As wulfenite is a relatively soft and fragile mineral, the specimen should be handled by its matrix and direct pressure on the crystals should be avoided. For dust removal, use a manual air blower and avoid water or cleaning products. Washing your hands after handling is also recommended.
