Dioptase from the Democratic Republic of Congo (year 2024).
Dimensions: 45mm x 21mm x H: 60mm.
Weight: 94g (with beveled acrylic base).
Dioptase is a mineral belonging to the silicate family. Its chemical composition includes copper, silicon, oxygen and hydrogen, its formula being expressed as Cu₆Si₆O₁₈ - 6H₂O.
Physically, this mineral displays a hardness of 5 on the Mohs scale, while its density oscillates between 3.28 and 3.35.
When first discovered, dioptase was initially mistaken for emerald, due to its brilliant green color reminiscent of the precious gem. It was only after extensive analysis that its true nature, that of a distinct copper-rich mineral, was recognized.
A magnificent addition to any collection!
