The different shapes and colors observed inside lithophytes are due to several geological phenomena:
Cooling and crystallization: When molten lava cools rapidly, it can trap gases, forming internal cavities. In these spaces, dissolved minerals are gradually deposited, giving rise to a variety of internal structures.
Secondary mineral deposition: Over time, mineral-rich fluids penetrate these cavities, depositing successive layers of minerals such as agate, chalcedony or quartz. These deposits create distinctive bands and patterns visible on the stone.
Chemical variations: Colors are mainly due to impurities or traces of specific chemical elements such as iron (red, orange or brownish colors), or inclusions of other lighter minerals (white, gray, beige).
