Description

This amethyst geode from Morocco comes from an old collection. Its broad opening reveals a cavity lined with numerous crystals, ranging in colour from very pale violet to deeper purple tones in the central area.

The crystallisation mainly consists of small crystals closely packed together. Several larger, lighter-coloured crystals are visible in the centre and lower part of the cavity. A pale mineral border surrounds the crystallised area.

The specimen measures 135 mm in length and 112 mm in width. It weighs 775 g.

A geode is a natural cavity formed inside a rock. Over time, mineral-rich solutions circulate through the cavity and gradually deposit crystals on its inner walls.

Amethyst is the violet variety of quartz, with the chemical formula SiO2. Its colour can vary in intensity within the same specimen, as seen in this geode.
