About this specimen

This association of pyrite and galena from Zlatograd, Bulgaria, displays a strong contrast between the bright golden pyrite crystals and the darker areas of galena.

Pyrite is particularly abundant on the upper part of the specimen, where numerous metallic crystals are grouped around larger, more developed crystals. Their golden-yellow luster contrasts clearly with the dark grey galena that forms an important part of the specimen. The variety of crystal volumes and metallic surfaces gives the piece considerable relief despite its small size.

An association of pyrite and galena

Pyrite (FeS₂) and galena (PbS) are two metallic sulfide minerals whose association creates a particularly clear visual contrast in this specimen. The golden-yellow luster of the pyrite stands out against the dark grey tones of the galena, making the two minerals easy to distinguish.
