Hematite – Saphoz Mine, Vosges (1990s)
This hematite specimen, from the former Saphoz mine in the Vosges Mountains, perfectly illustrates the metallic formations characteristic of this now-closed locality. The crystals show interlocking lamellar structures forming rosettes typical of the region, with shapes that sometimes resemble dark petals with a steel-grey sheen.
Hematites from Saphoz were highly sought after by French collectors, especially during the 1980s and 1990s, when quality specimens could still be extracted. Today, these pieces are part of the regional mineralogical heritage.
For maintenance, gentle dusting with a soft brush is sufficient. It is advisable to avoid prolonged contact with water, which could alter the metallic surface and dull its natural lustre.
Dimensions: Width 63 mm x Height 60 mm – Weight with base: 470 g.
