Description

Specimen overview

This pyromorphite on baryte from Les Farges Mine, France, displays a particularly dense crystallisation composed of numerous small elongated prismatic crystals. Their colour ranges from ochre yellow to orange-brown and covers a large part of the visible surface of the specimen.

The crystals form tightly packed groups, particularly in the central area and around a recessed section, with varied orientations that give depth to the crystallisation. The light-coloured baryte remains clearly visible in several areas of the specimen and forms the support for this mineral association.

Provenance

This pyromorphite comes from the former Les Farges Mine, near Ussel in Corrèze, France. This French locality is particularly well known among mineral collectors for its pyromorphite specimens. The BRGM (Bureau de recherches géologiques et minières, the French Geological Survey) also highlights the reputation of crystals from Les Farges.

This specimen was collected in 1980.
