Pyrite - Zlatograd, Bulgaria | Ref. 137

This pyrite from Zlatograd, Bulgaria, was collected in 2003. It forms a compact group of intergrown crystals, with several broad, strongly striated faces and a number of clearly visible cubic forms.

The golden metallic surfaces display pronounced parallel striations, producing changing reflections as the stone is viewed from different angles. The main face shows dense crystallization, with several projecting crystals and clearly defined edges. The more irregular reverse reveals the base of the piece.

The compact arrangement of the crystals and the prominent striated faces are the main distinguishing features of this Zlatograd pyrite. The photographs and video show the stone from different angles and highlight the variations in its metallic lustre.
