Specimen overview
This fluorite from Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria, displays several cubic crystals of different sizes, partially covered by a fine quartz crystallisation.
The fluorite crystals range from greyish violet to very dark purple, with some areas appearing almost black depending on the lighting. Several well-individualised cubes stand out clearly, particularly on the main face, where the larger crystals create a strong contrast with the lighter areas.
The crystallisation extends across much of the specimen, alternating between larger cubes and smaller crystals. The flat faces, sharp edges and variations in transparency are especially visible when the piece is viewed from different angles.
The video also shows that the fluorite crystals continue across the sides and rear of the specimen, where part of the rock support becomes more visible.
