This beautiful specimen from the Le Burc Mine in the Tarn department, France, combines large pale blue fluorite crystals with abundant white quartz crystallization.
The fluorite occurs as well-defined cubic crystals, several of which display broad translucent faces. Their color ranges from very pale blue to slightly deeper blue depending on crystal thickness and lighting. The cubes emerge at different levels within the quartz crystallization, giving the specimen a pronounced three-dimensional relief.
Quartz forms an important part of the specimen, with numerous clear and reflective crystals. The contrast between the white quartz crystallization and the geometric blue fluorite crystals is one of the main visual features of the piece. Le Burc Mine
The Le Burc Mine, also known as the Burg Mine, is located near Paulinet in the Tarn department of southern France. This former French mining locality is well known among collectors for its fluorite crystals associated with quartz. Blue shades, sometimes particularly pronounced, are among the characteristic colors of the locality, which has also produced yellow fluorite.
The mine was worked for fluorite during the second half of the 20th century and ceased operations in 2006. This specimen comes from an old collection.
