Specimen overview

This pink tourmaline from Minas Gerais, Brazil, consists of numerous prismatic crystals arranged on several levels. Their formation creates a distinctive stepped structure, particularly visible on the main face of the specimen.

The crystals display well-defined longitudinal striations. Their varying dimensions and heights produce a dense relief, combining large upright crystals with smaller crystallisations. The colours range from pale pink to deeper pink, with some partially translucent areas.

The tourmaline grows on a pale matrix, mainly visible along the sides and at the back of the specimen. The pink crystals cover most of the main face and can be observed from several angles.

Provenance

This specimen comes from Minas Gerais, Brazil, a region renowned for its pegmatite deposits and the diversity of its tourmalines. Collected in 1990, it comes from an old collection.

The specimen measures 80 × 65 × 76 mm (L × W × H) and weighs 480 g. It is presented without a base.
