Topaz belongs to the class of silicates with the chemical formula Al₂SiO₄(F,OH)₂.
It is found in a wide range of natural hues, including yellow, blue, pink, colorless and brown.
Its hardness is 8 on the Mohs scale, making it one of the most resistant stones.
Density: 3.49 to 3.57 g/cm³.
Different varieties of topaz are available:
- Imperial topaz with a golden-yellow hue and red highlights.
- Very pale blue topaz, not to be confused with aquamarine.
- colorless topaz and pink topaz, often due to natural irradiation.
