A little history ...
In ancient Egypt, chrysocolla was already used as a mineral pigment in frescoes and make-up. Greek and Roman civilizations also appreciated its decorative hues, although it was sometimes confused with other copper-bearing minerals such as turquoise and malachite.
In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, it was found ground in certain green pigment mixtures, although its relative fragility limited its use. Artists looked for more stable alternatives, such as azurite or calcined copper oxides.
