This purple fluorite comes from the Berbés area in Asturias, Spain, a locality known for the quality and colour range of its production. Collected in 1983, it comes from a collection assembled during that period.
The fluorite occurs as well-defined cubic crystals with a purple tone. Their transparency reveals lighter zoning deeper within the crystals, noticeable depending on the viewing angle and lighting.
The Berbés mine, now closed, produced specimens mainly in purple and bluish tones, sometimes yellow or colourless. Pieces from this historic locality are regularly found in both institutional and private collections.
This fluorite measures 55 mm in width by 75 mm in height and weighs 150 g (base included). It is a representative example of classic Berbés material.
