Specimen overview

This blue celestine from Madagascar consists of several large, thick and well-individualised crystals standing out from a finer crystallisation. The main crystal rises above the cluster, while other broad crystals develop at oblique angles across the front and sides.

The colours range from pale blue to bluish grey. The degree of translucency varies according to the thickness and orientation of the crystals. Their flat faces and terminations reflect the light, revealing the different shades and some of their internal structures.

Numerous smaller crystals, ranging from very pale blue to almost colourless, surround the main crystals. They cover much of the rock support, which remains discreet and is mainly visible at the rear and base of the specimen.

Provenance

This specimen comes from Madagascar. It was collected in 2004.
