Specimen overview
This specimen features numerous intergrown cubic fluorite crystals. Their colour ranges from bluish green to very dark blue-green depending on their thickness and the lighting.
The crystals vary in size, with several well-defined cubes distributed across the full height of the specimen. White to colourless quartz crystals partially coat the fluorite and also develop between the cubes. In places, they form fine sparkling druses, while several fluorite faces remain clearly exposed.
Together, they form a very beautiful association of fluorite and quartz.
Provenance
This fluorite and quartz specimen comes from Nigeria and was collected in 2023.
Dimensions and presentation
The specimen measures 125 mm in length, 60 mm in width and 143 mm in height.
Weight: 1.365 kg including the stand (acrylic).
Care and preservation
Fluorite remains sensitive to impacts because of its cleavage. The small quartz crystals covering certain areas may also be fragile. The specimen should be handled by its stand, not held by the crystals, and dusted with a soft, dry brush.
