Description

Specimen overview

This specimen combines a double-terminated prismatic aquamarine crystal with numerous overlapping mica crystals. The aquamarine displays a very pale blue colour, appearing almost colourless in places, with translucent faces revealing internal veils and inclusions.

The terminations are visible at both ends of the crystal. Its surfaces range from relatively smooth and lustrous areas to more matte zones marked by slight natural irregularities.

The mica develops mainly along one side and behind the aquamarine. Its blades are silvery brown with metallic reflections.

Provenance

This association of aquamarine and mica comes from Pakistan and was collected in the 1990s.

Dimensions and presentation

The specimen measures 63 mm in length, 39 mm in width and 67 mm in height.

Weight: 254 g including the stand (bevelled acrylic).

Care and preservation

The mica crystals consist of thin blades that are more fragile than the aquamarine. The specimen should be handled by its stand, protected from impacts and immersion in water, and dusted with a very soft, dry brush.
