This pyromorphite from Saint-Salvy, France, comes from an old collection and shows numerous groups of green crystals spread across a very irregular brown-rust matrix. The crystals develop in small sprays and tight aggregates, with a well-distributed presence across several areas of the specimen.
Collected in the 1980s, this piece measures 55 mm in width and 51 mm in height. Displayed on a base, it weighs 174 g including its support.
Pyromorphite is a lead chlorophosphate with the formula Pb₅(PO₄)₃Cl. It mainly contains lead, phosphorus, oxygen, and chlorine. Its hardness is generally around 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale. Saint-Salvy, in the Tarn area of southern France, is a well-known French mineral locality regularly cited in collections.
