Description

About this specimen

This quartz point from the French Alps is distinguished by numerous chlorite inclusions, which give the interior of the crystal dark green to grey-green tones.

The quartz forms an elongated prismatic crystal with a well-defined termination. Its transparency varies across the specimen: some areas clearly reveal the internal inclusions, while others contain a higher concentration of chlorite.

The crystal faces also display visible growth striations, particularly along the sides and near the termination.

Quartz with chlorite inclusions

Quartz (SiO₂) is a mineral composed of silicon dioxide.

The term chlorite refers to a group of hydrated phyllosilicate minerals whose composition varies between species, notably containing magnesium, iron and aluminium. In some quartz crystals, minerals of the chlorite group may occur as inclusions.

In this specimen, these inclusions occupy a large part of the crystal while leaving more transparent areas, particularly toward the termination.

This quartz point comes from the French Alps. It comes from an old collection.
