About this specimen

This dioptase from Mindouli, Republic of the Congo, displays emerald-green to blue-green crystallization distributed across a dark matrix.

The specimen as a whole has a rather deep overall tone. The dioptase crystals are mainly distinguished by their vitreous luster, green reflections and variations in color depending on the viewing angle and lighting. In some areas the crystals are more clearly individualized, while elsewhere the crystallization appears more compact and integrated into the matrix.

The irregular surface of the specimen, with its reliefs and small cavities, gives the crystallization a different appearance depending on the viewing angle. The video provides a better view of these variations in luster, color and transparency.

Dioptase

Dioptase, CuSiO₃·H₂O, is a hydrated copper silicate belonging to the trigonal crystal system. It is particularly known for its characteristic color, ranging from emerald green to blue-green, and for its vitreous luster.

Its color and the quality that its crystals can achieve make dioptase a mineral particularly appreciated by collectors.
