Description

About this specimen

This beautiful specimen combines fluorite from Jalingo with abundant quartz crystallization. The fluorite crystals are partially coated with numerous small quartz crystals, while remaining visible in several areas and creating a marked contrast between the darker fluorite and the clear, reflective quartz.

The fluorite displays cubic crystallization, with several crystal faces clearly visible beneath the quartz coating. The video shows the main face from different angles and provides a closer view of the association between the two minerals.

Fluorite from Jalingo

Fluorite from Jalingo, Taraba State, northeastern Nigeria, comes from a relatively recent mineral discovery. The deposit was identified in 2022, with mining operations beginning in early 2023. The first specimens quickly attracted the attention of mineral collectors.

Fluorite from this locality occurs notably as cubic crystals, sometimes twinned, and may be associated with quartz as well as other minerals. Some specimens also display variations and zoning in color that become particularly noticeable under different lighting conditions.

Provenance

This specimen comes from Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria. The association of fluorite and quartz is characteristic of a number of specimens from this recent discovery.
