Description of the fluorite and quartz specimen – Le Burc Mine, France
This piece of pale blue fluorite associated with quartz comes from the Le Burc Mine, located in the Tarn region of France — a now-depleted locality that produced, between the 1970s and 1990s, fluorites of remarkable transparency. The specimen shown belongs to an old collection from the 1980s, a testimony to a period when French mines still yielded fine fluorite crystals.
The piece displays well-formed cubic crystals in soft bluish tones resting on a matrix coated with translucent quartz. Under oblique light, subtle color variations can be observed — a typical feature of Le Burc fluorites, often influenced by local geochemical conditions during their formation.
The Le Burc Mine is one of the best-known deposits of the Saint-Salvy-de-la-Balme district, renowned for its fluorites showing shades of violet, blue, or colorless hues.
To preserve the luster of this specimen, it is recommended to keep it away from direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure may alter the color of the fluorite crystals over time. Occasional dusting with dry air or a soft brush is sufficient for maintenance.
Width 69 mm × Height 40 mm.
