This association of cleiophane (a variety of sphalerite) with galena on quartz, from the 9th September Mine in Madan, Bulgaria, shows dense and well-distributed crystallisation across the specimen. The piece displays numerous white to translucent quartz crystals, associated with darker cleiophane crystals as well as small metallic grey galena crystals visible in several areas of the surface.
The cleiophane crystals appear as well-individualised groups, with distinct faces and strong reflections. Galena is present more sparingly, contrasting with the light quartz matrix. Together, they form a clearly readable mineral association, typical of Madan specimens appreciated by collectors.
With dimensions of 62 mm in width and 62 mm in height, this piece weighs 195 g (including the base). Collected in 2000, it comes from a Bulgarian locality regularly represented in mineral collections and also on our site through various mineral specimens.
