Specimen description
This phantom amethyst from Nigeria was collected in 2023. The specimen consists of a single upright crystal presented on an acrylic stand.
The crystal has a well-defined termination and several flat faces. Visible growth striations appear on one of its sides. The purple colour is mainly concentrated in the upper section and within the crystal, while some outer areas are paler and translucent.
Inclusions and internal variations accompany this distribution of colour. White mineral areas remain visible at the base and on part of the crystal, although the associated mineral cannot be identified with certainty from the available information.
What is a phantom amethyst?
In a phantom crystal, an earlier stage of growth remains visible inside the quartz. The crystal then continued to develop around this first outline, creating an internal growth zone. In this specimen, the structure can be seen in the distribution of purple colour within the crystal.

Nigeria is the confirmed origin of this specimen. As no more precise mine or locality has been provided, the piece is not attributed to a specific deposit.
